After reading all the posts on here about the many issues some folks have had with their first-year Mavericks, I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when mine needed a new rear axle, RDU service and a new 12v battery (all under warranty) but at less than 20,000 miles?
Wow.

I have a feeling that once the extended warranty is up, I may be trading it in.

What symptoms did you experience pointing to the rear axle shafts and RDU ?

I actually thought it might be a front CV axle that was going bad, turns out it was in the rear. I started feeling a slight vibration and hearing a noise when making a tight turn while reversing.

They say Never buy the first model year. With Ford and all the Recalls and quality issues, I'd say wait a minimum of 5 years and get an extended warranty for sure!

Ten years to planned obsolescence,
Talkin bout my 2024 Maverick AWD EB
I bought a warranty to 100,000 miles.

I will trade in then or buy another 50,000 warranty then trade in/up.

My 2021 Bronco sport needed a new RDU at 27,000 miles. I got a loaner, no big deal.

Dealer told me they were replacing a rear CV axle. I got it home, crawled underneath and its a whole new RDU.
I literally HATE having any repairs done at dealerships. They’d rather lie than
you the truth 99% of the time…

Just had my '22 Mav XLT EB2.0 FX4 4k in for a pile of recalls. Asked them to also look at front axels. Came out with a new 12V battery, new RDU (told it was leaking), and rear axels. Tech put the pads
in backward when reinstalling on rear driver-side caliper (noticed it was only contacting on the outside 50% of the rotor surface, popped off caliper, took pictures of pad orientation, fought my
ambition to fix the stupid A$$ tech mistake, and called the dealership ) . Took it back in, told them what was wrong, and they acted like 'what's the big deal' and treated me like a complaining A-hole. I do most of the work on my cars including my maverick, but will be using a different dealership 35 miles away (Ford Dealer in Morgan Hill, CA) going forward for any recalls or warranty concerns. Was planning on treating myself to a Raptor as my next truck, but now seriously considering other truck brands as well. All vehicles have issues, I get that. If service takes care of warranty issue or recall (or even a tech screw up), just fix it and return my vehicle without a giving
me a hard time or acting like I owe them my heart-felt gratitude because they replaced a defective 12V battery and software that has stranded me twice or they took my time to bring my truck back to reinstall my brake pads properly.

Agree on don't buy 1st year, though I did not do that when i bought my 2020 Escape (1st year of the current version). Waited till 2024 to by mine. Back in 2001 when Ford announced the Escape 3.0V6 (actually designed by Mazda) I jumped and ordered as soon as I could place an order (Sight unseen, only pictures). When it came in, was the 1st the dealer had seen. My 88 Bronco II was in need of replacing. Within a few weeks, while heading to work in horrific rains, all of a sudden a horrendous whine/howl from the rear of the vehicle. System detected slip on the front end and sent power to the rear. I realized what the issue was fairly within a couple miles... Brought it to the dealer the next day and took a tech out for a ride. He said he did not hear anything. I told him to put it in AWD (back in 2001 you could do that) and then the howl... You could see the shock on the face of the tech that was driving. Whole new rear end. Was like a rear end with high mileage wining to the max... Then there was the sunroof (out of warranty). Track broke... Went to sunroof place after dealer said they would have to replace the entire sunroof ($$$$$$). They researched and found a track in a totaled vehicle out in the mid west. They recommend I contact the maker of sunroofs for Ford... I did only to find out that I had to contact Mazda's supplier. They told me that they never had such a failure, however they agreed to send the part at no cost to the sunroof dealer... When it arrived, the sun roof dealer notice the part number was not the same. Come to find out, updated part... Still suspicious of the suppliers comment that they had never seen that happen). LOL.

Purchased 22' EB AWD 4k as soon as I could. Other than routine maintenance and recalls it's been wonderful. Just turned 37k returning to Ohio from Texas at 70-80 mph around 30 mpg. Couldn't be happier.
