I seen in the 2.5 hybrid engine specs that it has 13.5 to 1 compression will it require premium to run correctly

Manual shows 87 octane minimum; premium recommended if towing

From the manual.

Ford Maverick 2.5 hybrid engine requires Premium Gasoline? 1633112146163

Though it doesn't really mean the Maverick will get it's specified mileage with 87 - It does say Premium improves performance. Apparently 85 voids the warranty. Good to know (Not that any gas station I go to has 85).

Maybe one of the people who's talked to the guys driving the hybrid around and getting 40+ mpg asked about it.

Higher compression yes, but it is Atkinson cycle so 87 octane (as recommended in the owners manual) is fine.

That's great it can run without an issue on 87! My 2008 Kia Sorento pings like crazy if I use 87. Currently get 14.5mpg and have to use premium gas. Can't wait to get my Hybrid XL!

If you read past the "87" graphic, you'll see that 91 is recommended for optimum performance, particularly in hot conditions and when towing.

Just want to point that out...

The compression ratio is a bit of a red herring. The Atkinson cycle leaves the intake valves open for part of the compression stroke. The volumetric computation of compression ratio doesn't take this into account. So the effective CR of this engine is something lower than the listed 13.5:1. Hence the fact that it can run safely on 87.

I wouldn't put 87 in my 13.5:1 compression motorcycle...

I saw in the specs for the 2.5L hybrid engine that it has a 13.5 to 1 compression ratio, will it require premium fuel?

??????????
That's what this thread is all about. And the answer has been given: NO. It requires only 87 octane.

According to Wikipedia (Yes, I know, but I can't find clear documentation on the 2.5L at the moment), modern Atkinson-cycle engines like the 2.5L have lower effective compression values than the engine is actually rated for because air can freely escape the cylinders.

You can edit your thread and add a question mark to the title so people don't bust your balls too much heh.

That's what I said 3 posts above...with a mechanical explanation and no Wikipedia reference. 😆

Sorry, I spent 5 hours this morning standing in line in front of best buy for a video card. I am fried right now. Too old for this shit.
