Look what just parked next to me. A Rivian.

Almost exactly the same size as the Maverick.

Not quite the same price.

He did have suspension set to "low" but body height and bed height was identical to a stock Maverick. The crew cab was just a couple inches longer. Front bumpers and windshields were even in these photos.
He can go 340 miles.
I can go 700 miles.

As they say, the efficiency of scale, but I know its a lot more than that. Imagine if mav was a company's first or second product. Imagine they could only build 10,000 a year,( I have no idea how many rivian builds).

I'm sure mavs would be a lot more money.

I keep thinking the yellow stripe is a yellow tie down strap going over the truck.

Looks are a matter of personal preference.

My take away today is:
The Rivian is not that large.
And/or the Maverick is not that small.

Rivian is cool but overrated and can't really do truck stuff. It's a glorified mall crawlers. 4k eco maverick any day.
The Rivian would spank the Maverick in just about any truck related metric outside of maybe range.

The Rivian is a nice truck, been in a couple of them before. There are a lot of Ford design cues IMO. Makes sense though, a lot of current Rivian designers and engineers are former Ford employees.

Not sold on electric yet, but besides that the Rivian is pretty nice honestly.

Range is kind of a big deal if you are in an area without decent charging infrastructure. Our Bolt EUV is great in the LA area. In a rural setting? Not so much .Towing uphill in the cold? I'd like to see it. Trucks and semis are not ready to go EV. The energy density is not there in current battery packs. I'd drive a rivian if someone gave one to me. On my own dime? I'd go Maverick or Tacoma. Alot of bugs with the rivian as well per YouTube videos.

It also weighs 7,000 pounds, or as much as 2 mavericks!

I've seen far more Rivians in the wild (I live 2+ hours from a large town, 5 or so from a "city") than Mavericks. Heck, I even saw the Rivian SUV charging at our local charge point (had manufacturer plates).

At best the Maverick is a "trucklette".

The Rivian is hands down the most truck you can buy with 4 Wheels (not a dually). Even with stock tires it will rock crawl its ass off. There is another video of it pulling a sled, beat the crap out of the "lightning" in that also.

Did they get to write off the Rivian as a business expense?

I didn't ask. It was a 5 minute interaction. Almost certainly yes.
