Look what just parked next to me. A Rivian.

Almost exactly the same size as the Maverick.

Not quite the same price.

He did have suspension set to "low" but body height and bed height was identical to a stock Maverick. The crew cab was just a couple inches longer. Front bumpers and windshields were even in these photos.
He can go 340 miles.
I can go 700 miles.

I would die if the Mav grew about 8 inches and could fit a gear tunnel in the unibody construction. Easily worth $10000.

NO idea if the engineering works on that. Rivian's skateboard chassis is what makes the tunnel work.

Yeah, I saw a Shelby-prepped supercharged F-150 when I was picking up my Maverick. Looked pretty sweet with nice wheels/tires and lots of ground-effect stuff. Interior was gorgeous.
Ford Maverick $100k Truck vs. $25k Truck IMG_1784

However, the "as built" sticker showed almost $113K, and that was before any ADM (which is guaranteed on a one-of-a-kind truck like that). My salesman said "That thing will pass anything on the road, except a gas station..."

The Rivian is an interesting vehicle. It does outshine the Maverick in towing capacity (8,000 lbs) and it's quick like a slot car, but yeah, one pays for that. I find it odd that the owner is using it as a commercial vehicle . . . kind of expensive for that.

Business "expense" / tax write-off I'm sure.

But 100 miles tops- between ~1 hour recharges when towing, IF you can find a fast charger- which you're only going to find in populated areas.

Since I want to tow in rural areas, EV is not an option.

The big difference is "you own the Maverick" the Rivi is a company truck!

And? Absolutely worth it. Locked watertight storage that can be re-arranged and used in hundreds of different ways. Who needs underseat storage that useless for anyone with kids when you have 11 cubic feet of trunk storage in the middle of you car? AND you get to keep the bed for everything else.

Agree. The Rivian's low range makes it impractical for anything other than short city work. I much prefer a hybrid. No matter my location, there's bound to be a gas station nearby. If not, plan for that.

Right. You can carry extra gas easily and cheaply. And since I'm towing a toy hauler with gasoline powered toys I usually do!

I really considered an EV truck for a while. I considered bringing a gas (or diesel) powered generator with me for rural trips. But power demands for recharging are GIGANTIC. Not large. Not big. Not huge. INSANE. Approaching time travel levels (Back to the Future reference.)

You really can't bring along a large enough generator to recharge these big EV's with enormous battery packs.

This is what you need for a 1 hour recharge: A $259,000 machine.

I'm not joking. This is reality.
100% true.

Top unit is 200 kW output.
Bottom unit is 20 kW output.

Well, you won't see that in the Rivian sales brochure. My neighbor has a Tesla and she said it has a 300 mile range and a much shorter recharge time, but the Rivian is heavier and probably has different motors, so perhaps not a good comparison. I was surprised at the Tesla's range.
