I hear ya. It would be great if they could get that highway drive with better gas mileage. It would make my vacation trips much less expensive.

It’s not gonna help that much to matter.
disagree, probably another 2-3 mpg highway.

" According to many experts, the best way to improve the truck's fuel economy is to add a tonneau cover. A tonneau cover will help reduce aerodynamic drag and can improve gas mileage by as much as 10%, see below for details. "

I realize this is off-topic, and I will certainly understand if this post is removed. But I want to offer an opposing viewpoint. I'm not attacking the poster, who adds a lot of value to this forum. His/Her post was calm and informative in tone and I am responding in kind.
Haiti has an authoritarian government, ranking as one of the lowest in political and civil liberties.
Haiti's government collapsed months ago -- through assassination and years of rot.
Gangs Now Run Haiti, Filling a Vacuum Left by Years of Collapse - Bloomberg

People like to live in countries with the greatest amount of economic and personal freedom with the minimum amount of government control over their personal lives with mostly "light-touch" libertarian governments like Swizterland, Sweden, Hong Kong
Switzerland and Sweden: Income taxes are 40% and 53% (compare USA at 37%). Collective bargaining coverage is 51% and 88% (compare USA unionization rate of 11%). Regulation of consumer products is based on European Union or Single Market standards. Gas costs around twice what it costs in the USA. Sweden is planning a ban of new ICE cars as of 2030 (say hello to electric Volvo). And, yes... people like to live there.

As for Hong Kong being a "light-touch libertarian" government, well... Things have changed a bit since the handover in 1997.

I'm also loathe to enter into political conversations on this forum, but it should also be noted that "economic freedom," as defined by economic and social mobility (i.e., "freedom" to advance in society) is higher in the much more regulated and socialized European and Scandinavian countries.

It should just be split off and moved to an off-topic discussion, since a communism vs capitalism debate is not even attempting to remain Maverick related now, but is still interesting.

And much lower in actual socialist large-government Communist countries, to a level of famine and crushing poverty, sometimes virtually overnight as seen in Venezuela in spite of their year round great weather, tourist attractions, large amount of arable land, and vast natural resources.

Economic freedom is defined as how much freedom you have in how you choose to make a living, such as how many regulations there are on small businesses and commerce in general. In true socialist societies, the government owns the means of production and thus manages who are the winners and losers and even directs on a macro level what work people will be doing and how resources will be allocated. The government is horrible at running industries, as evidenced by China as one huge example in which millions upon millions of people literally starved to death due to mismanagement by politicians that are not field specialists, and upon finally releasing the reigns by and large has caused an explosive growth just getting out of the way. There is a direct correlation between government vs private management and prosperity. Successful Western nations are long standing free-market capitalist meritocracies where some one can open a restaurant called McDonalds or a decide to just build a theme park on his land and call it Disney World or an online bookstore called Amazon, and if they had good ideas and business models they attract private investment and expand and franchise doing their best to avoid government interference. This model is so successful that excess wealth from a productive capitalist economy allows them to waste some of that on a unproductive welfare system, just as it allows Dubai to waste it on unproductive enclosed ski resorts in the middle of the desert. No one would confuse how one chooses to waste resources as an example of why something is successful.

May people in this forum drool over the old muscle cars 429 SCJ Mustang, Chevelle SS 454, Old 442's. But cars today are faster, handle better, and get much better fuel economy.
But nothing is still as sexy.....

I agree... But I don't think there is much of that debate here. It actually seems like there is much more agreement than disagreement.

Your most telling points are aimed at "actual socialist large-government Communist countries," such as China and Venezuela, while you apparently appreciate the value of democratic socialist countries, such as Sweden and Switzerland. I see things much the same way.

As Ronald Reagan said: "The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally – not a 20 percent traitor."

Again, I'm not interested in a political debate. I was just pointing out that "economic freedom" is not as simple as maximizing free enterprise and minimizing regulation/socialized services. I'd say what you define as "economic freedom" is more "freedom for capital" to do what it wants (which i'm not any more interested in than political authoritarianism). I've yet to see an actual free market meritocracy (it certainly doesn't happen solely through the lack of regulation). If you think you found one, dig a little deeper and you'll find systems rife with nepotism and defacto authoritarianism. Balance is needed between the ills of all systems because all roads lead to the same place (concentrated power).

Fair enough, and mostly I liken socialism to drugs. "Light socialism" is like "light drugs" such as marijuana or alcohol, and just because people drink or smoke a little doesn't mean they are bad or unproductive, but it can be a dangerous gateway that should be kept away from impressionable children and police those that don't exercise moderation and start shooting up in public at BART station while wearing a Che shirt. 😁

Okay, I'll go on record with this article. The Window sticker posted yesterday was NOT BS like I thought it was. So I was wrong.

Please don't take this as I'm happy with the MPG's shown, I'm just stating I was wrong and I stand corrected.

Thanks Ford for making it official. Now how about a build date?????
Your not happy with the EPA mpg ratings? You knew the highway would be lower than a hybrid Escape due to its squared of front end vs the Escape’s more aero shape. It makes a difference at 65 mph.
