Maverick January 2023 Sales Highlights
  • Maverick January Sales: 6,272 vehicles. Sales (YTD): 6,272 vehicles
    • January sales represent a 6.7% increase from December.
  • Maverick January Production: 8,694 vehicles. Production (YTD): 8,694 vehicles.
    • January production represents a 15.4% increase from December.

Interesting (to me) facts:
  • Ford built 2.6X as many Mavericks as Rangers
  • Only the two Broncos, Transit, Explorer, and F-Series had higher production than Maverick
  • The plant cranked out 1,054 Maverick and Bronco Sports per working day (assuming Ford gave them the 2nd off for New Year)
    • That's just over one vehicle rolling off the line per minute.

... But if my dealer has no allocations, (None, zip, zero, nada) and has no idea when or even if he'll get any, my 16 months of waiting has pretty much been crushed by your Abrams, huh?

Under the "Bird in the hand" theory, a used Ridgeline is looking better and better.

A bit of a good news, bad news thing.

Since December 1, Ford has built a total of 2,588 more Mavericks for MY23 than over the same period for MY22. Unfortunately, for Ford's recent constraint percentages to make sense, either Ford has pumped out more hybrids than planned or most of that increase was eaten up by fleet orders.

Given that Ford is being specific about only scheduling retail orders going forward, one would hope the excess will now be customer orders only.

"Ford built 2.6X as many Mavericks as Rangers"
Ranger sales tanked last year, people are waiting for the 2024 model, so it's no surprise that Ford is boosting production of other vehicles.

A 60 second takt time (time the consumer expects another finished product to come off the line) is getting at it. I worked at the Mercedes plant here in Alabama in the early 2000s and our takt time was 90 seconds. In that 90 seconds I had to put on a broadcast sheet (almost like a mini window sticker for our particular trim line), the hood emblem, put in the sunroof, and go pick up the next sunroof. By the time I picked up the sunroof the next vehicle pallet was moving in. So basically that particular station's cycle time matched the takt time. If a non-sunroof optioned (very few M-classes but most of the now defunct R-class) vehicle came down the line my cycle time was drastically lower.

Ford is beginning to flood the market with bronco sports. Sales have dropped off and inventory rapidly building.

A shift towards Maverick production (hopefully)?
They'll probably just offer a somewhat decent lease deal on Bronco Sports, they'll be snapped up in a heartbeat right now because there are no good lease deals.

I recently heard Tesla runs at a 40 second takt time. 40 seconds!!!!!!

If Ford is keeping their 65% EB ratio:

Through the end of March, they have built or scheduled roughly 22,000 EBs (and that might be conservative). Lets take off around 4,000 for fleet, since that the only way the published numbers to date make sense, and that leaves 18,000 EB orders built or scheduled out of roughly 27,200 EB orders.

That means starting with April scheduling, there should only be around 9,000 EBs left to schedule and Ford is building 5,000 EBs per month. Ford also plans to dip into the missing MY22 allocations for April.

Once we get out of April scheduling, the only thing keeping Ford from finishing off the EBs will be allocations and constraints. It will no longer be a capacity issue.
