That sharp edge could cut into the axle boot with the new angle. In install pictures it doesn't appear to be an issue but after it settles on the ground it would be touching if left original.

Just to bring the front end up to look more level to the back end. These new vehicles point the nose down to increase fuel economy for ratings but it looks better up to most people.
