  2. $7700 GFC Platform Camper

Posted in Car and Driver: Ford Maverick Is Overland-Ready with $7700 GFC Platform Camper (caranddriver.com) 1/3 the cost of a base Maverick! But it looks pretty cool. No, I'm not buying one. I like sleeping on the ground. But I'm guessing that these will sell just fine without me. :)
  3. It's a truck and does truck stuff!

All of those people on Facebook declaring that the Maverick isn't a "real truck" can kiss my tailpipe. Sure, it's a smaller truck--but it sure does truck stuff well! Getting ~47 MPG doing it is icing on the cake. I love my truck!
  4. Terrific Console Organizer Trays

  5. Driving Over the Colorado Rockies in My Hybrid (Review)

I just drove my XL hybrid from Denver (Fort Collins) to Glenwood Springs on I-70, and back again. As most locals know, this is a steep, fast, and high-altitude road. Two passes (11,158' and 10,666'), a section with a 7 percent grade, and many steep climbs and descents give engines and brakes a...
  6. This is why I bought a Maverick

Cannondale Tandem 29er. A huge bike, and it fits perfectly. I made a bike mount that fit into the Flex Bed slots. Probably the most solid and secure way that this bike has ever been carried. Back when the truck was just a rumor, I began compulsively hunting for bed dimensions. When people...
  7. Keep Maverick Truck Club Fun!

I've been on this forum since last summer, and it's mostly been a pretty positive and helpful place. But the tone seems to have changed recently, with people quicker to throw insults at those with different perspectives. Instead of reading something interesting about someone's Maverick, I...
  8. The Maverick is a $20,000 piece of junk (not 😉)

"The Maverick is a $20,000 truck, so it's a disposable piece of junk." At least that's what a few people have been loudly proclaiming to dismiss the Maverick. Even when someone has a loaded Maverick costing $40,000+, there's always the critic who claims that it's actually a $20,000 truck, but...
  9. Fixed-Point Roof Racks (Yakima Landing Pads, Rails, etc.)

Years ago, I installed Yakima Landing Pads on my Honda Element--which made rack installation and removal quick and easy. Alas, I don't see anything in the manual about pre-drilled spots on the roof for rack hardware on the Maverick. But maybe they are there anyway? I'm tempted to pull off the...
  10. Changing Default Driving Mode?

Does anyone know if it's possible to set a different default drive mode at startup, like ECO, instead of NORMAL? I'm pretty sure that I already know the answer to this question, since page 227 of the manual says, "NORMAL. This is the default mode after each ignition cycle." But I'm hoping that...
  11. HUGE key/fob

OK, I've found one thing that I really hate about my new Maverick: the enormous key/fob. I've never owned a Ford before, so maybe it's normal for all of their vehicles? But it's like carrying a can of Coke in pocket (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration). What the hell? None of my other cars have had...
  12. eCVT is amazing!

I've only had my hybrid XL for a few days, but I think that the eCVT might be one of the best parts of this truck--and perhaps one of the most under-appreciated. I’ve always driven a stick. I despise automatic transmissions and conventional CVTs. But this transmission is excellent. No hunting...
  13. Picked up my Velocity Blue XL Hybrid last night!

Ordered it back on June 16th, and just drove it home last night. My first impression is that this truck is an incredible deal. Wow! I'm kind of glad that I hadn't seen one before last night, because my expectations were simply blown away. It has a massive amount of utility, amazing gas mileage...
  14. My Hybrid Build Date Pushed Back One Week

I just received an email from Ford this evening that my XL hybrid build has been changed from October 4th to October 11th. It’s a Velocity Blue, with no bed liner, no mud flaps, etc. The order was placed on June 16th. A one-week delay isn’t too bad, so I’m not upset. Hopefully this will be the...
  15. Chevy Montana

Not available in the USA, but here's Chevy's effort at a small truck: Chevy’s New Ford Maverick–Style Small Truck Isn’t for Us (motortrend.com)
  16. Canoes and ladders

I'm curious to see what kind of options for carrying things like canoes and ladders become available. My old '89 Toyota (6' bed) had a rack on the topper, which was nice. But I'm not sure whether I'll put a topper on my Maverick, since the bed is so short.
  17. Ford Protect Extended Service Plans

I've never owned a Ford (or any other American brand) mostly because they've never seemed terribly reliable. But I'm going to purchase a Ford Maverick, because nobody else is making anything similar. I've never regretted not purchasing an extended warranty or service plan for any Toyota, Honda...
  18. Dealer Games?

Based on the comments on this forum, I reached out to Chapman Ford and Granger Ford. They are both pretty far away from Colorado, so shipping will be expensive. They provided some decent prices, without any complexities. But I wanted to give my local dealer a shot, so I pinged them. Here's...
