I feel little shame or pride, so I will drive whatever is the right vehicle at the right price. But that is not the Santa Cruz.
I had a 1981 Chevy Citation for several years (I think I got out of that in 2004), so the Santa Cruz must be bad.
Be sure to check around for the best deal. I have seen dealerships order below invoice, at invoice, at MSRP, and above MSRP. I ended up choosing a local place that would do invoice over a longer drive to save a little extra (or the closest place, where MSRP is the best they will do, but markups...
I also drove the SC. I kind of liked the look in the sage gray, but despised the engine and didn't feel like the interior was all that great (not bad, just...meh).
Considering I can get a Lariat Lux at invoice and every Hyundai dealer is sticking with MSRP+, it's a no-brainer between those two...
The talk about reliance on the grid seemed to imply that you thought they would leave people stranded. And the dismissal of solar as being an option without reliance on the grid or refineries supported that.
But, yeah, we can each make the choices that make the most sense from our points of view.
Using the energy to coast is still more efficient than recapturing it via braking. You might go to other hybrid forums to talk to hypermilers there, but the techniques are largely the same as any other. Regaining electric also occurs when coasting in drive, and it feels a lot like engine braking.
I am cheap, so some good colors are out. I like Cactus, but the reports of softer paint there have me leaning toward Velocity or maybe even springing for Cyber or Alto.
But the Cactus does still seem like the best color for the brown Lariat interior.
Lithia Ford Boise did not have their Maverick marked, but told me that they had a $2000 dealer markup. I told them I would order from a place offering invoice and the salesman tried to play dumb: "What do you mean invoice? Like the sticker price?" "Nope, less than MSRP by a few hundred dollars."...
Nobody said the power never goes out. But the power outage is unlikely to have the significant effect you imply. If you don't charge one night, it is unlikely to leave you stranded at home any more than a gas vehicle is likely to leave you stranded because you had planned to fill up and didn't...
1. Depends on the EV and the hybrid. The Lucid Air has cracked the 500 mile range mark. That said, I don't generally drive long enough nonstop to hit the maximum range on my current PHEV, nor would I expect to in an EV.
2. Quicker to refill, sure. But batteries are not that difficult and can...
I was going to order the XLT, but then I sat in both it and the Lariat. The stiffer, rougher XLT seats seem durable, but not comfortable. The ActiveX is far more comfortable than expected.
I do like the acoustic windshield, power rear window, dual-zone climate, and ACC, of course. But the seats...
And what happens when the pumps stop working at the gas stations?
Even for my parents out in the boondocks, power outages rarely last long enough to be an issue in any way. Electric has some drawbacks (charging time on road trips, mostly), but worrying about the grid isn't really one of them.
If...
I was thinking I would get the Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV or an Escape PHEV. I currently have a Niro PHEV and like the commute on electric, but the bed offers more utility. And the price certainly helps justify the gas use, too.
