Thanks colinl. Phase was correct (not way to revers with Crutchfield connector) and no short to ground. Already returned.

Thanks for the great thread all. I tried the Focal RSE-165 speaker upgrade with stock head unit and wound up returning the speakers. There was no audible improvement with these speakers and in fact a decrease in base extension. Maybe the Focal mid bass was a bit tighter but the factory speakers...
