Well... I have a Maverick—not an SUV. The camper comes on and off in about 15 minutes, so the truck is still a truck 90% of the time. I wanted something I could customize—add shelves, hang hooks, maybe even install a heater—without worrying about wrecking the interior like I would in an SUV. I...
Hahaha! I thought about getting locked in by some jokester. The "skylight" opens up so I could crawl out in an emergency.
It could totally be made lighter. 2" foam board with PMF? But, I like being able to screw things into the side. Or maybe an aluminum frame like you mentioned? I'm thinking...
Here’s my little 1-person micro camper—just enough space for me, my bike, and a bit of gear. This version’s kind of a prototype since it ended up heavier than I’d like, but I’m still pulling 35 mpg with the Hybrid Maverick.
The interior’s not finished yet. I built it mostly from leftover...
Hey there! Looks like you're off to a great start! Keep us posted with your progress. Sadly, I don't remember much about my camper build because I kind of winged it, figuring things out as I went.
If I were to do it again, I'd probably make some sort of sandwich board with a thin layer of...
OK, Team Maverick. I just got back from a 2600-mile drive from Colorado to California and back with the camper. Here are my thoughts.
Pros:
• I got caught in the middle of a weird Wyoming winter storm with 50+ wind gusts and the camper did not implode
• I liked having my bike and gear safely...
I planned on covering the inside with automotive carpet, but I don't want to sink more money into it until I've tried it out a bit more. If I love it, and it works for me, I'll finish the inside.
Sounds like a sweet build. Was curious about FRP. We have a little Boler camper for family trips. 850 pounds and pulls great!
For the next cab-over build, I'm planning on making composite panels (like
Ambition Strikes YouTube channel), with aluminum framing. Will take longer, cost more and be...
The sleeping bed is 55" wide x 80" long and fits full-size mattress. Right now it has a queen-size mattress in place that is too wide (but works, and I had it laying around). Half of the bed slats can be removed, mattress rolled up into the cab-over area so I can stand up in the back. I lay with...
To be clear, this was an experiment and I wasn't sure how it would turn out... or even be usable :ROFLMAO:But, it drives great. Can't really tell it's there. There is some wind noise but not as much as I expected. I added a wind deflector, which somehow made the wind noise worse.
Team Maverick! Wanted to share my recent DIY camper build. Its 2” rigid foam insulation, wrapped in canvas and coated with Tightbond II (sometimes called Poor Man’s Fiberglass or PMF), then painted with rubberized roofing paint.
First time building with these materials. Learned a lot and a few...
