I ordered it at 16" high, and yes, that appears to be to the top of the crossbars. If I were doing it again I'd probably go 18". 16" matches the lowest part of the cab roof (since it's domed from side to side) but sits below the highest part. For my paddleboards/kayaks its fine because the...
My dealer makes you leave the car until they get to it, and conveniently charges for rental cars during that time. A$$holes. I found another dealer that actually does appointments, so I'll be driving a couple towns over for that one.
Dang. I've had mine updated, but I don't get any kind of indication of changing the gain settings (other than feeling it in the brakes). My local dealer sucks in that they don't do appointments and it's a 7-10 day waiting period for diagnostic services right now (and they make you leave your...
I did too (about 1.5 less average) with the AA Racks 2501 adjustable height. At the lowest setting they were still about 1" higher than the cab and they stuck out to the width of the mirrors. I have since swapped it for an Xtrusion Overland rack that sits just below the cab top and my mileage...
Do you get a visual indication of the Brake Controller settings when adjusting? I have an XLT (with the small screen like yours) and get no indication on the screen when adjusting the Brake Controller gain, but I can feel the difference when I squeeze it to test.
Do you think it would be possible to "cheat" a clamp-on roof rack between the velcro (about 1/4" thick foot plate)? Do you think there is there enough room in the tension adjustment to account for something like that?
Yeah, if those have t-track I could totally see just making a 1-2" spacer for that purpose! I'm coming from just regular square bars on my previous vehicle - didn't even think of that!
I knew as soon as I saw the chip-shortage cubby that I wanted a ridiculous big red button there. Something ejector seat-esque, but that actually does something.
So I made this Big Red "DO NOT PUSH" button. And so far it is definitely my favorite upgrade :D
Looks great! If I were only using them for my kayaks/SUPs this is the exact route I would have gone, but I do need that extra 2" of clearance for lumber. I am anxiously awaiting my adjustable height AA Racks to arrive (hell, even ship - the order has been in with amazon for a week now!)...
same. Mine went into production late last week with today listed as the blend day, but it sounds like the factory is on a pause this week, so we'll see if it's just for new construction starts or not.
I don't know how to use CAD software (I probably should learn it) but I can use graph paper and a straight edge. The item details are in my chicken scratch, but the important bits should be readable.
All-in it will be about $550. I'm still toying with a few options for feet attachments and...
Personally I think this was "hard mode" for making a custom rack. Anyone can use Unistrut or 8020 profile to build the same thing and not need to weld, or even drill.
I just priced what it would take to build a similar rack from 15-series 8020. The only difference would be that my design...
Plus, Mr. Boom appears to be in the flat parts of the country from the look of his videos. I'm sure you can stress/max out the towing on plenty of vehicles in those conditions (especially in cooler air temps). Here, even just going from Albuquerque to Santa Fe I see plenty of massive trucks...
Thanks for this! Can you get an accurate measurement of the distance from the bed rail to the highest point of the cab roof (for ladder rack clearance)?
Looking forward to more videos!
I tried to get the same measurement when I was able to see one. It's a bit tricky because the roof seems to slope up to the middle a bit and the bed rails have that plastic trim that prevents you from getting right up to the cab.
From my notes I had written 16-17" for that measurement. I'm...
Yeah, I looked it up, he likely drove from a Denver Dealer to Albuquerque. Depending on where he came from in Denver area it would be perfect for that mileage. That's really good news for me - that I can drive to Denver on a single tank!
It might have been 6 remaining. I didn't write it down, and now that I really think about it, I don't think it was both 516 and 16 remaining (I did write down the 31.5 and 516 numbers though)
