  1. Couldn't pull the trigger

By the specs the Maverick has more headroom and legroom than the Ridgeline. Honda specs the Ridgeline as 40.1 (39.5 w/ sunroof)/38.8 in of F/R headroom; Mav is 40.3/39.6. F/R legroom is 40.9/36.7 for the Honda and 42.8/36.9 for the Mav (I believe the Hybrid is ~1" less in the rear than the EB)...

    Hurray for another Scouter!
  3. Couldn't pull the trigger

No debating the utility and versatility of the minivan. I do have to say that our Atlas is fantastic in terms of backseat access, dealing with car seats, etc. And at also 6'3", I could also ride fairly comfortably in the 3rd row, behind other adults, which was not true of any other SUV we...
  4. Couldn't pull the trigger

It wouldn't have been our only vehicle, we also have a VW Atlas and I got rid of a 2016 Passat to get the truck. The issue was that for all the things we would have wanted to use it for, it would have had a relatively short window where it really worked--a few years where my boys were big enough...

I think it's awesome that in your region there were units around and you had the chance to check out the truck in person. Sadly that hasn't been the case everywhere. I don't think that's old fashioned at all; which is why after I had a chance to check out the Mav, I didn't buy it.
  6. Couldn't pull the trigger

Great question--I thought about leveraging the golden egg I was giving them into a good deal on an F150. Ford just doesn't make anything nearly as efficient as the Duramax. I don't need a truck every day, so maximizing fuel economy was important to me since the truck is my daily driver. As of...

The 6 year old is the same height as his brother and 20 more lbs of brick wall. He definitely has 6'7" written all over him. He's also a lefty, so trying to teach him to play 1B and hit from both sides 😆.

Straight up in the trenches. Stay strong! This was a major part of the decision as well. (y). Our other vehicle is a VW Atlas, equipped with captain's chairs to try to cut down on the grab-assery. We use that (plus roof box, if needed) any time we are all going and our dogs are coming too. But...
  9. Couldn't pull the trigger

We all have our crosses... Just for seatbelt positioning, with maybe a sprinkling of "they're growing up too fast for my wife's liking."

CA is the same--always thought those are Federal guidelines? Either way, I'd much rather err on the side of caution on this particular issue.
  11. Couldn't pull the trigger

Gotta pay to play, unfortunately. No denying it was a big jump up, budget-wise. Just hoping for a solid, long term relationship.
  12. Couldn't pull the trigger

Truth. 😄. I hear ya. Coming from a lifetime of German cars, I didn't have any brand loyalty. This new 3.0L engine gets basically equivalent FE to the EcoBoost Maverick. And here in CA Diesel #2 is the same price as 87 at my local right now. It'll be cheaper than regular gas in the summer, and...
  13. Couldn't pull the trigger

Backless ones, yeah. Not latched down, but they sit up higher to get the belt positioning right so they wouldn't be choked out in an accident.
  14. Couldn't pull the trigger

Totally. I think it was the booster seat that was the killer, because the kid couldn't tuck his feet under the back of the front seat.
  15. Couldn't pull the trigger

    Thanks much--appreciate the kind words!
  16. Couldn't pull the trigger

Agreed. Honestly I had the same intent... And I've followed your posts/story and did hesitate about posting mine out of consideration for folks like you who are still waiting on similar builds. But I also thought I had a perspective worth sharing.
  17. Couldn't pull the trigger

Yeah, I know. There's just no midsize truck that offers any more cab space than the Maverick does. Maybe the Ridgeline? But the Duramax is more fuel efficient than the Honda, so...
  18. Couldn't pull the trigger

Sure, I get that. Sorry to pour salt in the wound. I knew that I wanted the Maverick to work. Unfortunately it just didn't.
  19. Couldn't pull the trigger

It was crazy fast - like a week. I think it shipped like 4/11 and was delivered 4/17. I reached out to the salesman at my dealer a few days after it shipped to try to get the rail car to track, and he told me it has passed through Bakersfield that day and was due between 4/22-4/28. Got a text...
  20. Couldn't pull the trigger

There wasn't a Mav on a lot within 100 miles to test drive. I knew the sales manager at the dealer and only had to put down a refundable $100 deposit, so my order was my test drive. I absolutely did research the dimensions, and have a comprehensive spreadsheet comparing the Mav's specs with our...
