Just my fingers and an x-acto knife in the intricate areas. Once I was able to get under an edge it pretty much peeled off. A little heat probably would have helped but it came off. Yes, it was a PITA but no one has ever accused me of being patient.

I was able to remove the urethane. The cover is slightly discolored in a couple of spots but overall it looks fine. It works for me, at least for now. I did not want to deal with the hassle of trying to return it. I'll be curious to hear if you have the same issue.
