You could probably get by without the bed extender. Just be sure to tie some type of red flag on the end of the kayak as there will be a 3'6" overhang. I use 2 ratchet tie downs in the bed that keeps it very stable.

Here is the Harbor Freight extender with an even 10' kayak...a 10'5" is perfect size for the extender ($65)
