I've done the same thing on my XLT, upgraded it to SYNC4.
Biggest complaint with SYNC4? Ford refusing to let carplay go true full screen. So annoying to me.
Absolutely can appreciate that, as everyone's use cases are different. I am in my truck a ton due to work, etc so it made it worth it to me.
You are spot on with Ford's poor decision on this. The base infotainment center is laughably bad and its frustrating to me that it was even an option.
