Haha I try to make it look nice, but not necessarily inspired by Wes Anderson. I suppose that show is centered lol
Awesome that you did this on an El Camino! Got any photos??
Yeah, the goal is to have enough space to hang out inside if there is bad weather, but there's nothing I can do about...
Just posted part 3 in a new thread here.. making a new thread so we don't end up with one mega thread that's hard to traverse. This one is all about the folding walls!

Hey all, here's the latest progress on my pop-up camper build. I decided to make a new thread because each video will be focusing on a completely different part of the build. This way the threads can be more focused, this one being about the folding wall system.
I just finished building the...
Lol that belongs to my parents, and sadly hasn't moved in quite some time. Maybe it'll be my next project... it's completely stock with only around 120k miles, perfect victim for a turbo.
Using 8020's deflection calculator it's possible to calculate how much a piece will bend under a given load.
https://8020.net/deflection-calculator
My cantilevered section is about 45 inches of 2x4, and with an end load (worst case scenario) of 400lbs it would bend about 0.37". I believe this...
True the mattress will add some weight. Idk, it would be worth looking into how much weight the 80/20 #3395 (I have the tnuzt equivalent but it's prob the same or close) can withstand (I also have the joint bolstered with this as well though) and how much weight the 2x4s can support both evenly...
Probably only around 350 pounds max, aside from the weight of the roof section which will have it's weight rest evenly distributed between 4 points (gas struts).
And more efficient! If I knew how to cut and weld steel I probably would have done something similar.
Yeah I plan on losing...
Yeah with the proper joins the extrusion/8020 is super strong. I don't see it failing. I don't think the aluminum or joins would experience forces strong enough to reach failure from just driving around. Honestly I'm more concerned about the forces applied to the frame when two people sleep or...
Could you explain this further? I don't follow, specifically what you mean by fiberglass top and roof.
As for solar, I will probably wait a while (1-2 years) before installing anything electrical. Batteries are expensive and this build is already becoming pricier than I thought. Also with the...
Thanks! I'm a little worried the folding walls and barn doors are gonna look bad but I'm trying really hard to make it look nice all around!
Thanks, I see you've got a camper canopy yourself
👀 Is that the GFC? Hows it working for you? I talked to a guy at a gas station the other week who has...
Hey, I'm building a pop up camper for my Maverick and just put together a little video showing the assembly of the frame. The frame is made of extruded aluminum and will have ACM panels on the sides. I'm going to have folding walls (inspired by Hiatus campers) which I'm super stoked to work on...
I'm planning on mounting a roughly 400 lb camper to the back of my truck. With two people sleeping it will be about 600lbs on the bed sides. I took the side trim off to see if mounting without it would work, but sadly it doesn't look like it. I did notice something interesting though. The trim...
Selling the folding bed cover because I am building a canopy. It is in great condition--only used it for a couple months.
I am near San Jose CA.
$700 obo.
