I can confirm in my initial testing that wiring up that module through the 4 pin harness does NOT work. The third brake light blinks if any turn signal is on. Will call Pacer tomorrow to confirm my setup is correct, that is if they'll cooperate...
Currently working on a camper that will involve a tailgate removal. Removing these little housings would actually help me out a lot. Anyone know what would happen if I tried to unscrew these painted over bolts and remove the housing? Would I end up damaging my paint in any significant way? Is...
Pacer makes a "3RD Brake Light Logic Module" that can apparently filter out the brake light signal from the turn signals... I called and the tech just said "it works by detecting amperage.. that's all I got." so I have no idea how it works. At $16 I think it's worth a try...
Does your truck show that it is towing while you have that plugged in?
Also I had an idea, wondering if someone with more electrical expertise could chime in. I'm still trying to conjure up some setup where I don't have to dive into the OEM third brake light, looks like an absolute pain in the...
Just spoke with a Service Advisor at my dealership who told me that splitting the connection on the OEM harness for the third brake light will void my warranty for the entire car's harness and any electrical issues. But if I make an extension and split the wires there it's fine 🤷♂️ so I'll be...
This is what I want, I really just need the brake light for safety. Can I really use my existing tow harness for a single light without issues? The other replies seems to imply this is a bad idea but that would be the easiest solution hands down.
Eh actually the mav uses the same lights for the turn signal and brake light in the tail light so will prob still need to go through the third brake light housing.. didn't realize that
Or maybe this is what you are talking about? Doesn't look like there is a relay though, might cause issues with power draw no? Could be a good way to source that harness though

Yep sorry, meant how does it go from the housing to the bed. I see now, pretty sweet those holes and grommets are there.
Just to be clear, you are talking about one of these right? For posterity, I am linking to a Curt product titled Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Ford F-150...
Actually yeah idk why I've been so hung up on intercepting the third brake light wires, accessing the wiring for the tail light would be a lot closer to the new third brake light of my canopy... How do the wires exit the housing of the tail light?
Awesome this is all super helpful
This sounds like a good avenue to explore. I'd love to add an extension in the middle that intercepts the signal rather than cutting into my harness, but if the third brake light side harness is so cheap maybe I'll just keep my OEM and cut up a spare... they...
That Putco is a good option but is pretty expensive at $354, also not a huge fan of it in general... wanted something a bit smaller, that thing would extend across the entire top of my canopy.
This is a good idea, but I am unfamiliar with relays. Is this the system you are proposing? I get an...
Nothing stopping me, that's what I was thinking would be the cleanest solution as well... although tying into the existing wires worries me a bit. Not sure what they have going on in there, if it has the power to run another set of lights, if the added resistance will throw some warning, idk...
I'm building a camper that sits on the bed like a canopy and will extend over the cab and therefore block the third brake light. Is there a best practice or known product for adding a third brake light to the back of my camper?
Do people usually just hook into the wiring harness for the trailer...
Here's part 4! Sorry this video took so long, it's only 3 minutes but it took me weeks to troubleshoot the 2x4 issues...such a pain. Hopefully I can get the next one out sooner, I've completely finished the folding wall mechanism with gas struts and everything. Just have to chop up the video and...
I had a few setbacks honestly I've just been slacking on making a new video. I'll try to get it out this week! If you ever want to just chat about the build let me know, always down for that.
I almost have the pop up walls completely finished and finalized!
Hm, I'm not sure how much total time I've spent on this so far. I got my first order in from Tnutz on April 2 which is a good landmark. It is also worth noting that I don't have a job right now and have definitely put in plenty of full days worth of work, possibly full weeks.
Most of my time...
Wow that is awesome!! Honestly super impressive, I can see a lot of stuff that is DIY on there that I will just be ordering from some manufacturer lol
I'm curious, why do you have those jacks under the truck in the first photo?
