  1. Reminder for everyone as Mavericks get bought: there will be issues

For some, perhaps, but my, rather similar, Escape was built Jan 8, 2020, and it's been fine to 30K miles. There have been TSBs and recalls, but for little things. I did some just to stay in configuration. My only "failure" had teeth marks.
  2. Aftermarket locking differential for hybrid Maverick?

You need a differential any time you want to turn, and apply power to both sides of the vehicle. The inside tires travel a shorter path, and the differential allows the wheels to turn at different rates. AWD has 2 differentials.
  3. Hybrid engine performance question

I've only driven two hybrids, Ford Gen 3 and Gen 4, and neither are small I4s. I am familiar with those designs, are placed in the class of "weak hybrid" based on motor size and battery capability. The Fords are both are "strong" hybrids. I think you're in for a pleasant surprise. Unless you...
  4. Thinking ahead -- Are the batteries in the hybrid consumer replaceable?

60% of the time it works, 40% of the time, it's cargo. Li-ion battery life is not an issue in properly designed hybrids. Different usage pattern that's very life-friendly for Li-ion technology (rarely hot, never stored full). Owners report great mileage at 250K. Folks think that hybrids (HEV)...
  5. Hybrid engine performance question

This is a great answer! Other way round... at the expense of power. As you note, power is torque x RPM, but the price of efficiency is slow RPM rise: it revs slowly compared with a 100% fill engine, or a 140% fill EcoBoost. Remember, the operational model is the "stationary engine" whose RPM is...
  6. My dealer confirmed that it is EPA testing holding up Hybrid

This is the full list of 2022 Ford vehicles with EPA mileage ratings. The EcoBoost is an exception. Search by Model Model Year: 2022 Make Ford Select Model… Ford Maverick Ford Transit Connect
  7. This will be my first hybrid to drive.

This video is accurate but outdated. It covers Gen 1 and 2, the Japanese-made transmissions, which had different internal combustion engines and motor/generator power ratings. General description is spot-on, but specifics are wrong for Gen 3 or Gen 4 drivetrains. Maverick will be HF45+.
  8. Acoustic Windshield

Notes on sound levels. 10dB difference is 10x the amplifier power, but it is perceived as twice as loud. 3dB is half/twice the amplifier power, and is still clearly perceived. We can hear a 0.1dB change.
  9. 43.6 MPG Hybrid Maverick fuel mileage snapshot by Alex on Autos

Yeah, that's kind of low. My Fuelly average is 44-something. The link's in my sig. That's called Hybrid Heaven. The ICE never idles, and nearly 90% of braking energy is recovered. C-Max drivers with this driving pattern were getting mileage in the 60's, tank after tank. Terrain matters...
  10. 2.5 hybrid engine requires Premium Gasoline?

It starts at 90% and drops as low as 50%, which engineers see as twice the power stroke of a non-Atkinson engine. Here's the fill-ratio map for a similar ICE from Toyota, in terms of power stroke/intake stroke (50% fill = 2.0). This ICE gets almost 40% efficiency inside the 2.0 circle. Right...
  11. Acoustic Windshield

Ford comes and goes on this. My 2020 Escape has acoustic glass, the 2021's don't. Same with foam engine covers, although they disappeared in months. As to glass, remember that a lot of folks have deducible that's greater than the cost of glass repair. Were deducible to apply, there would be no...
  12. 2.0 AWD Real World MPG???

My Escape Hybrid reads 5% high on the dash, compared with pump mileage.
  13. 50 MPG in 50 Miles for Hybrid Maverick says Levine

I have an Escape Hybrid with the HF45 drivetrain, trading in a C-Max with the HF35 hybrid drivetrain. These comments are based on driving those cars. Pretty darn good. My drive to work was 15 miles, and it took a half hour. A dozen lights and 6 stop signs, with 35-40 mph speed limits through...
  14. 50 MPG in 50 Miles for Hybrid Maverick says Levine

... at 30 mph. I get more like 60 mpg at that speed. False, in part. No EV above 85 mph, it's true. Below, there's no difference. The original 47/47/47 ratings were changed in summer, 2013 (Ford used Fusion aero load on the taller C-Max) and again a year later (Ford had an error across the...
  15. Swap to Lithium ion 12v battery.

When I see these threads, I always wonder what folks are thinking. Cars (in the US) are 12v negative ground electrical systems. How does the drivetrain change that?
  16. Maverick Memes - fun diversion while we wait [ ** NO POLITICS ** ]

PRNDS?? Works great, try one and you won't miss the stick.
  17. Anyone Worried about the Lighting Quality? LED Lights Getting "Poor" IIHS rating

Or they could be as good as the halogens on the C-Max, unlikely as that is. Proving the well-known is a waste of time. Too bad you never had sealed beams.
  18. Anyone Worried about the Lighting Quality? LED Lights Getting "Poor" IIHS rating

What does this prove? Anyone can screw something up... It's application that matters, not technology. I've had halogen headlights as bright as the Escape's LEDs, once you discount all that useless blue light they give off. Snow squalls are a real test. I wish they'd tested fog lights; my...
  19. How does Ford calculate total Horsepower and Torque for the 2.5l Hybrid?

That, and - ICE RPM isn't tied to road speed so it adds across the traction motor's RPM range. - ICE power can be used to generate electricity as well as moving the vehicle. - maximum EV output requires ICE to generate most of the power. - AC-AC converter in the hybrid seems to have much...
  20. Cold Weather Performance for Hybrid Maverick?

Here's what I see in my 2020 Escape Hybrid. Last February we averaged 23.9F with 30" of snow. There are two caveats: these are long trips at steady speed, both of which mitigate warm-up issues. Short trips and stop-n-go driving will have a negative effect that's not captured here. I also have a...
