it slides right into the grooves in the sides put sideways. i used 2x4", some used 2x6" and i saw a post with a 2x10". mine is not a completely snug fit or i wouldn't be able to get it back out. i just want it to keep items close to the tailgate from sliding all the way forward and i can't reach...

It might be limited to Sync4a only. There's an option in settings to set max idle time, after which the prompt pops up. I have the same in my Escape, which also has Sync4a. Perhaps Sync3 vehicles don't have this feature? I don't have one to check.
