I popped the panel out using a plastic trim removal tool over a small towel. No problems at all. If someone wants to "undo' the mod I recall the panel is about $45.. .

The panel pops out easily, I recall there are (4) clips. I made a simple shielded, fused cable that runs to the threaded "+" post under the red cap and also to a chassis ground below it... No need to open the hood.... .
