That's from last year. It looks like the most recent one is related to a fire risk from the tow hitch harness/computer. It's on the front page of APnews.com.

I wouldn't worry about this at all. Train accidents are down something like 40% since 2000. We are just hearing about every incident now because it's shortly after a major disaster. I doubt there are statistics, but I wouldn't be surprised if the rate of cargo lost is higher on trucks vs trains...

I don't have experience with the brand, but it could be the greatest sound ever and it wouldn't justify that price tag for me. I never really understood having a system like that in an otherwise normal car. You are still going to have the same amount of road and wind noise after all.

The size would need to be pretty close to original. They are self tapping, not self drilling. If someone could put a pair of calipers on the screw diameter, you should be able to find an off the shelf alternative. You could probably get stainless steel too which would actually be superior.
