This is just a prototype, about $2.00 worth of scrap wood left over from my house remodel.
I didn't have any metric bolts or long screws on hand, but 5/16th coarse threads fit almost perfectly (temporarily) in the factory-threaded holes.
I'll make a nice new clean piece when it gets above #42...
Good deal. I was just looking on eBay and the cheapo filters are about $6 a piece.
I didn't see any Motorcraft, but I didn't look too deep in the listings.
EDIT: Motorcraft on eBay are about $26 with shipping.
So many uninformed people think when gas prices are high, the stations are "gouging" them.
The only gouging going on is the profits on Big Gulps, Cheetos and rubber hot dogs.
Percentage wise, gas stations make tons more profit on these things than on gas.
One of my part-time jobs I had to pay for college was at a Citgo station. I would come in at 6:00 AM on a Sunday before the station opened and stick the tanks, and putting that paste on the bottom of the stick to check for water. Later in the day the manager would call in the order for Monday...
There are too many variables in day-to-day driving to precisely measure MPG variance from brand to brand. It would take controlled conditions on a test track to accurately measure any differences.
An off-brand station might take it, specs unknown, at a discount price, but that's about .it. No "top tier" station would touch anything specs unverified.
Not very often. Gas stations know within a few hundred gallons how much gas is in the underground tanks, and that's how they determine how much to order for the next delivery.
I mentioned Refinery Exchange Agreements earlier.
Yes, for the most part the additives are different but very similar, such as Tide vs. Gain laundry detergent or Coke vs. Pepsi, etc.
