So I should be getting my new maverick in January. Wondering about the use of sandbags over the rear wheels and how much weight to use in a snowy environment?

Just pack it with snow and a little water for weight. It will melt and you will not have to unload it.

I live in TX so I have no real world experience but I have been on this forum for a while and all the northern guys indicate that the Mav does really well in the snow. More importantly are snow tires. Many of them have bought the LX steelies and mount snow tires on them for the winter months.

will let you know next month when my blizzac tires on steel wheels get mounted on my red maverick. no snow yet just flurries so far.

Well, we actually got to travel in some snowy conditions. And the all season Michelin‘s on my all-wheel-drive 24 Maverick did just fine. We drove from North Idaho to the Seattle area. The other thing that worked wonderfully with the adaptive cruise control and the lane centering. Man does make driving long stretches of road enjoyable
