Maverick Amateur Radio Club

Amateur Radio Mobile Operation
Greetings all.

I filled out the information to start this club. Apparently this is an open forum with no moderator. I’m, J C, N5RXS. I’m located in San Antonio TX.

I recently received my Maverick hybrid and am planning to mount two radios, a Yaesu FTM-400D VHF/UHF and Yaesu FT-891 hf. This is my first hybrid and vehicle with an aluminum body.

I have been told that some folks experience noise if steps if the doors, hood, and trunk (tailgate) are not bonded to the body. Also, to keep the radios away from the vehicle computer. I plan to order bonding straps and install myself.

I’m planning on installing the VHF/UHF antenna on a mounting bracket that attaches under the rear cab brake/cargo light. I’m undecided on hf antenna(s) at this point. Should I go with the Yaesu ATAS-120 or have two hamsticks mounted on top of the bed railing.

Does anyone have suggestions for installing radios in hybrid vehicles and antennas on these vehicles?

Did you complete the install? New member here, just read your post. I have a 102" whip I want to use for HF, not sure where to mount, was even considering a possible hitch mount since I have the optional trailer hitch.
