New Jersey Mavericks

Maverick owners from the great state of New Jersey

Hello,

Mike here. I live in Central Jersey, near Piscataway. Been in Jersey since 2002, but mother is from New Brunswick and still have cousins in Jersey. Was planning to stay for only a couple of years before returning to the South; instead, married a Jersey girl, bought a house, and got a beagle. May move after retiring.

I always knew it as Taylor Pork Roll … would always bring a roll back to home after visiting cousins in Jersey.

I placed an order for a 2024 Lariat Hybrid, silver color … guess we will see how long that takes. I almost bought a 2023 Lariat Hybrid, Area 51 color, but the dealer and I could not agree on the amount of dealer mark-up. Probably just as well as I want a sunroof, which is part of my truck order.

I currently drive a Honda Ridgeline RTL-E. I love the truck, but my son eventually will need a new vehicle (read that as me wishing for a grandkid), so using this as an excuse to get the Maverick. He will have to wait until it arrives … fair is fair … he is making me wait on a grandkid 😏.

That about covers the highlights.

Guess an update is due ...

I nixed the Maverick order for a hybrid and bought an AWD EB Lariate off a dealer's lot in South Jersey (August 2023). I was torn between the hybrid and EB. The reality is that I do not drive all that much ... maybe 5,000-7,500 miles or so a year. A hybrid would not have saved me much money. Combined with the fact that hybrids are less effective in cold weather made the EB a more compelling vehicle. I have no regrets with the EB and would purchase it again.

I drove the Honda Ridgeline to my son in Georgia. I took a very leisurely drive Labor Day weekend and managed to get slightly under 31 mpg in the Ridgeline (note that I relied on truck's indicated mileage and did not calculate myself) ... mostly 65 mph, speeding up only when I needed to pass trucks on a hill or other "slow" situations.

I eventually plan to repeat this trip in the Maverick to see what kind of mileage I can squeeze out of an EB 🙂. Around home (mostly local driving with little highway), I am getting anywhere from 23-26 mpg. I was lucky to get close to 20 mpg with the Ridgeline.
