Ok. I get it. Seems mpg is more of an issue than I thought. Just used to lack of miles I put on personal vehicles and never give much thought others might drive.

The system has evolved since this article and is more efficient and more advanced but the premise remains the same.Tell me more about the hybrid. Runs mostly on the electric motor? Does it offer any kind of get home mode? Meaning if electric fails will it run on the combustion engine only?
How so? More than 2/3 the hp comes from the gas engine.
Haven't posted in a bit and can't tell if these statements are deliberately obtuse and/or intended to to try to bring out people's anger, but here goes...Tell me more about the hybrid. Didn't read all the replies but why would anyone get upset over a personal choice, question? Some seem upset I asked. I really was just curious as why so many want a hybrid.
For me it is all about the cost of traveling back and forth to work. I drive a 2007 Silverado work struck, 14mpg. I am using $60+ per week just to drive to work. Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?
The "Atkinson engine" is a gas engine. Atkinson engines are used in conjunction with electric engines for (I believe) all hybrids sold in the U.S. They have proven to be very reliable (including this very engine, in Ford hybrids), while the 2L ecoboost has pretty mediocre reliability. How so? More than 2/3 the hp comes from the gas engine.
