So I managed to bend mine way out of whack, and need to replace it. Doesn't strike me as all that safe. Though as long as I'm working on the tailgate I'll probably add dampers too. Anyone know where to buy the bracket from though? Or am I going to have to call the Ford dealer? I can't find it in any of my aftermarket catalogs.

Maybe some pics, more details. Based on your post, no idea what you’re referring too

The safety bracket on the passenger side of the tailgate. This is a diagram showing it, got it from another thread. I could probably bend it back into shape by hand but I might end up breaking it entirely.

Gonna guess and say a trip to the dealer parts dept to order one will be in your future

Yeah I think you're right. It's kind of embarassing though. I work for an aftermarket parts catalog, and I have to go to the frigging OEM to get a part.

You will probably have to have it painted body color too :(

Not surprised at all it isn't available in "aftermarket" stores - it's not a performance-upgrade kind of part, and it isn't a commodity item like brake pads either...

That said, it looks like the F-150 and Lightning share a lot of the tailgate hinge parts, so if you can't find it in a diagram on an OEM parts site, maybe try looking at an F-150 of the same year and making sure it also applies to the Maverick...

Look in catalogs for tailgate anti theft bracket which replaces the safety bracket. It is a plastic encased "hose clamp" with a special "keyed" socket to turn the screw which tightens the clamp.

That is not what this bracket is. You're describing the optional tailgate lock.

So, how did you bend it?

Closing the tailgate...enthusiastically. Against something that didn't quite fit.

I'm not THAT strong, this thing really must just be to keep the tailgate from lifting out.
