Is it safe to stand or put heavy stuff on the tailgate?

But also, that's assuming hauling stuff and bumps etc... I'd guess that a 300lb person could stand on it if they're not jumping up and down?

That's what I an concerning, We need climb into/out the bed over the tailgate, sometimes even jump down, I worry about whether the thin cable can support it or not:p

That's interesting as they say in the manual the halfway down is 500lbs with it distributed on the wheel wells too... I wonder why they contradict themselves.
They don't. It's always been the 400lbs all the down and 500lbs when inline with the wheel wells. I would guess the wheel wells are supporting some of the weight in that scenario, hence the higher weight rating.

OP, you're going to be fine. I get onto mine all the time when I'm loading in and out, even jumping down - which you shouldn't do if you love your knees - and I've had no issues in the 2 years I've owned it.

I think it can support one Chris Farley

It can support one standing Chris Farley and 2 sitting Chris Farleys.

It can also support one gingersquatch in any position.

Important thing to remember, while jumping it's not to hard for a person to exert 2x - 3x their weight. This would go for cargo too when hitting bumps in the road etc.

so you just climb in/out the bed over the tailgate?
I'm thinking you mean using the tailgate as a step, if so, then yes I do. I sit on it, stand on it, use it as a work bench, all of it.

Exact what I mean, I dare not stand on the tailgate as F150, the two cables look so thin, LOL

Now feel safe:p
