A 5x8 enclosed cargo trailer is the largest that I'd tow.

I don't have one yet but I see this Jayco 12SRK that looks like it might be doable
I like to follow the 80% rule-of-thumb when towing. That is, don't exceed 80% of the vehicle's weight-carrying tow capacity. The hybrid is rated for 2,000lbs, so 80% would be 1,600lbs. That trailer empty is 1,600lbs and its gross exceeds the 2,000lb capacity.

However, it also depends on where you're towing. If you live in Florida or west Texas (AKA, where it's flat) and/or you don't mind going slowly (like, 30mph) up mountain passes, then I wouldn't have a problem towing that trailer.

I tow 4,000lbs over the Grapevine Pass in central/southern California with my Nissan Frontier a couple times a year. The truck can drag that trailer up at 55-60mph with power to spare, but it's doing near redline for miles. I prefer to duck behind a semi and go up at 30mph at about 2,500RPM.

Anyone planning on getting the hybrid and planning on towing a small trailer with it? Please share what you intend to tow?

I don't have one yet but I see this Jayco 12SRK that looks like it might be doable as long as you don't load it down too much with gear.

I think you'd probably be ok with that one assuming you do not overload. I would HIGHLY suggest adding trailer brakes. Stopping is much more of an issue than the pulling at that weight.

Search for "teardrop" or "tiny travel trailers" and you'll find a multitude of small manufacturers with some innovative designs, probably more reasonably priced than a big brand like Jayco.

That Jayco weights 1585, the hybrid Maverick weights 3674, the Maverick's GCWR is 6010.
6010 - (1585+3674) = 751. As long as you, your family, friends, gear and fuel don't weigh more than 751 you're good to go.
I'd question the 20 SF frontal area limitations, since the frontal area of the Maverick itself is about 30 SF.

I have wondered if you couldnt build a platform to set up a large tent, something with with the partially lowered tailgate in mind.

The Maverick looks perfect for a teardrop trailer or a rooftop tent on a bedrail that the hybrid will be able to tow. Teardrops will fit the weight, they will be lower than the Maverick for better gas mileage and you can get a street version of a teardrop or an offroad/offgrid version.

The XLT Maverick 2.0 with 4k towing/FX4 package will be visiting my driveway late 2022 for our teardrop and off the grid adventures! With today's new of a potential Rattler I may need to wait. 2.3T Maverick with off road package would be awesome.

Here is an example of an offroad teardrop: https://www.oregontrailer.net/ There are many nice vendors in the teardrop marketplace making great trailers that will last a lifetime.

Here is a great starter for a rooftop tent/bedrail set up: https://rooftopoverland.com/product...ck-bed-rack-adjustable-powder-coated-black-40

See you on the trails!!!

I've pitched a 2-person ground tent in the bed of a pickup. There are also purpose-made truck bed tents that maximize interior space. The ground tent is inexpensive; I wouldn't opt for the truck bed tent since they're pretty expensive for what you get and they're basically a uni-tasker.

Also depends on what your camp needs are. If you're staying put, using your vehicle as a tent base is great. If you want to use the vehicle to explore the local area, something separate is better so you don't have to break camp each day.

If you get in an accident you will have problems with your insurance company. If the TT's GVWR is over the max towing of your Maverick, your insurance company will decline the claim.
