Ohhh so that's what causes all that noise.
There was a thread a year or so ago that someone reported clunking when braking or other times. Tech replaced his motor mounts due to a defective roll restrictor. I don't know if maverick use a spring or liquid filled.

I new one for me, but I happened to be showing the Maverick off. Had the hood up and open when brother was just putting the truck in R and rolling a bit, stopping, D, rolling a bit. The entire Atkinson Cycle + ECVT block rotates with starting and stopping (rocking?) within the engine bay. Normal? Did some digging on discussins and videos about the hybrid motor and drive train. Can't find any mention (or missed it) about this "feature"?
Some one educate me, please.
Even scarier: wind tunnel tests on the Boeing 747, wings flapping like a bird. I find it best not to ask questions; I just stay dumb and happy. BTW, I don't fly.

When people say things like "it's designed to bend" I say sure. I agree.

How many times can you bend a paper clip? A coat hanger? A metal ruler? And how old is that airplane you are getting into?

How many times can you bend a valve spring? :)

The rotation on the hybrid engine is likely more pronounced due to the added inertia of MG1 being spun up at several times crank speed if the truck isn't moving.

Cheers.

Looks like the truck is breathing!

I think they come prebent after that they can only be squeezed. Oh wait if it breaks can you claim it was unbent?

Don't want to hijack the thread, for sure. A valve spring wire bends in rotation when they are squeezed since they are torsion bars in coiled form, and they withstand an ungodly number of cycles. Guess my point was different materials have much different fatigue characteristics, and I would guess this was engineered into the motor mounts and all the parts that attach to the engine and transmission. Hopefully 🤞.

Cheers.

I believe they all come with Hydraulic engine mounts, Both Ecoboost and Hybrids as most new cars this new norm to stop engine vibrations and harmonics from entering the cabin

The british made a jetliner called the comet back in the 1950's that had several crashes due to metal fatigue.

The engineers figured out how to mitigate the problem. Cracks in wing spars or other components still happen but IIRC there are inspection routines designed to spot them before they cause a problem.

There is a video of testing an airbus wing and it's VERY impressive.

My old 327 powered vehicles would walk out of the engine compartment, the motor mounts were tearing to the point that Chevrolet's fix was to provide a 1/4" cable loop over the A frame to keep it in the vehicle, I tried to install interlocking motor mounts but the bolts wouldn't align with the block.

Yes but.... how many cycles can it do that?

I can bend a coat hanger wire 180 degrees 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8..... 8 and a half times.

The wing of a plane or the flexible member of a suspension is a little more complicated than a coat hanger.

Wow, I would swear the rear mount is broken. Must be how they smooth out the transition from electric only to ICE.

Isn't this why service hours are tracked?
