Ever since I brought my truck in to the dealer to get the curtain airbag recall done, the moonroof won't open. Both buttons open just the small crack, but it will not fully slide open. Anyone else have this issue? Is it something I can fix myself?

seems a number of post on the air bag replacement seemed to have issues where wires were pinched or damaged during the reassembly process. Your dealer will need to resolve this imo

If you have to ask forum members if you can fix this yourself then the answer is no.

That leaves you with bringing it back to the dealer and have them fix their screw up or paying a shop to fix it.

Not necessarily, could have been an easy fix I wasn't aware of. Thanks for the wonderful input though.

Hi there. This moonroof concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Maverick. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

Update: My dealership has had my maverick for 8 days now. They initially determined the motor that controls opening and closing the moonroof was busted. They replaced it and it still doesn't work. Now, they think it's the actual control button which opens the moonroof is broken and the parts for that are on back order, so it could take days to weeks. They are waiting for confirmation on just how long it's going to take to get the new parts. If it's longer than 2-3 days, I'm going to get the truck back to wait for the parts to arrive at the dealership.

I've had various issues with this truck over the past year of owning it. I've never had so many issues owning a vehicle before, from recalls, loud rattling noises, broken moonroof and a piece of the interior that isn't securely fastened how it should be (this last issue, I brought to my dealership's attention back in February, they told me they ordered parts for what are missing clips to attach the piece properly and haven't heard back about it).

Once this moonroof issue is resolved, I'm seriously considering selling. I enjoy the truck but being at 1 of 2 dealerships close to me over 10 times to fix these issues on a brand new vehicle is worrying me about potential issues that will occur down the line that aren't so minor.

About the time you sell it, you'll have all the bugs out of it. It will make someone else real happy. Remember what they say about first year vehicles.

The fact that people accept first year vehicles to be inherently shitty is why they continue to be shitty. I'd gladly sell the maverick to get a vehicle from a company whose company name isn't an acronym for Fix Or Repair Daily.

Also Update: An employee of the dealership used the moonroof control button from his maverick to test in mine and it still won't open. So, now they have the foreman of the dealership (I assume it's the top guy there) running diagnostics from the beginning. They checked wiring as well which doesn't seem to be the issue.

Well, at least with the Maverick, you should come out OK financially if you do get rid of it. Really sorry about all the problems. I keep telling myself that those should be corrected if I ever get mine, but doesn't seem to be the case so far. But, I'd really like to find out. Best of luck and let us know how this story ends.

Understood. Taking it back involves additional risk or damage depending on the service department's competency. In my case, they took it back to repair recall-related damage, kept it for five weeks, and returned it with a non-tensioning, non-retracting driver's seatbelt.

Funny that you responded with that because similar issues happened to me.

Final Update: They ran diagnostics again and found a faulty wire. Fixed it and the moonroof works properly, but in reassembling the interior a host of other issues have come up...

Receiving the vehicle back there's just balled up paper and plastic all over the front seats. Not a huge deal but c'mon. The driver side seat belt doesn't retract. Both sides, the seat belt height adjustment gizmos are stuck and won't move up or down unless a lot of force is applied. Several pieces of the interior are either not sitting properly or are completely warped/bent and are leaving gaps like how a hand would fit to rip that piece off. I was able to clip in some pieces of the interior that were just hanging there, but the bent pieces are so fucked I can't attach it properly. Lastly, like in slow motion, as I was leaving the dealership last night, unbeknownst to me, a tech left a screw on the dash and as I made my turn the screw went right into the air vent.

And I don't give a F***. The dealership is Koch 33 Ford, Easton PA. The absolute worst experience of my life and it wasn't the first thing I've gone to them to fix. Bunch of dummies working there.

Obviously the tech--who did your curtain airbag recall--damaged wiring.

Can't believe they thought the moonroof motor miraculously failed at the same time the recall was performed.
