I think the Brazilian powertrains can be completely disregarded. They're 100% not bringing a diesel to the US. They also don't have the CAFE and emissions room for a short wheelbase light truck.

Santa Cruz will go hybrid soon too.

I can't wait until we evolve beyond the need for so much rake and piano black gloss (shiny cheap plastic) trim pieces - both interior and exterior. The lack of shiny black things is one reason why I like the Maverick so much. I can deal with cheap plastics - but shiny black plastics in areas like the center console is just awful.

Also, It seems they learned from their mistake of putting a giant Tesla like touch screen in there for all the comfort controls. Just dangerous. That said, I do enjoy the all screen versions of gauge clusters. If they don't go all screen, they need to stick to a design like the Maverick/Escape has. GM put that 8" screen in the middle of their lower trim model "twins" (Colorado/Canyon) and it's got to be the most hideous thing in the interior (among many hideous things) because there is nothing else around it and they kept the surroundings the same as the ones that have a full size digital cluster. Just odd looking.

The seats look nice., and I wonder if they have a ventilated option. I'd kill for some actual leather and ventilation. That was one feature that drove me to look at GM's new design for their "500 pounds less than full size trucks" (it's not even "mid size" anymore).

But exterior wise - ew. Just no. It's too much "Subaru Baja" but somehow not as cool as the Subaru Baja. Maybe the worst thing they did was give everything this angle towards the front. It only makes the rake look that much worse. It's a complaint I also have with the Maverick, but it's not near as accentuated as the Rampage is.

Drivetrain? It's a Fiat. 'nuff said.

Will it compete with the Mavericks? Yes. Why? Size, availability, price (TBD btw... because there is no way it will start at 46k), features and well... the market for actual mid size trucks is back (it never left, they just stopped making them).

Bonkers pricing and chicken tax just about mean this thing is not coming to the U.S.
It is said to be made in Mexico soon too, which would mean no chicken tax.

The body roll on the gray R/T with the “sport suspension” is ridiculous.

Still looking forward to my Mav. When I start seeing those on the roads in the next year or two I guarantee you I will still not regret my decision.

We've had 3 1/2 trouble free years on my wife's Cherokee, but no desire for a Ram. Ford knows how to build trucks. Am I a Ford FanBoy? Well, my personal vehicles for the past 33 years have been Ford trucks, so you call the ball. ;)

Who said that?

You're telling me Stellantis is going to retool a plant in Mexico to build a truck that competes with absolutely nothing stateside? 😉 I'm not convinced.

I think it's useful to to think about who this truck is for. People who want a 45k RAM trucklet, but not a Ridgeline or Maverick? And they wouldn't go with a redesigned Colorado, Frontier, Ranger, or Tacoma for the same price?

This would be direct competition to the Maverick, but like the Santa Cruz would be a bit higher in price. Top trim may be $45k, but it will not start there.

I wish they would retool the Belvedere IL plant to build them. But Mexico is another market these will sell in, and labor is cheaper there.

Santa Cruz is a sales flop. It's priced too high to capture price-sensitive buyers who automatically go for the Maverick and it also doesn't compete against "real" midsize trucks.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it stateside, but I just don't think Stellantis has a target market here that would make it worth their cost.

I just looked up the cost in Brazil. Rampage Rebel 4x4 Diesel is R$239,990. Same price that the Maverick starts for in Brazil. That means Ram can sell it here for $25k easily if it is built in Mexico.

With the equipment they have listed plus by the time they add US required equipment it is going to be $40K+. Plus they won't instantly convert another plant for it. Almost seems you have Stellantis stock.

I doubt they'd even cover their costs if they sell it for 25k. But hey, again, would love to see it here. More competition, especially in a category of truck that didn't exist for years, is welcome by me.

Btw, converting that cost to USD makes the Maverick quite expensive there. Maybe we're spoiled by cheap vehicles...

Not me. Hell I don't even have Ford Stock. It sells for the same base price as the Maverick in Brazil, R$239,990. Not sure why you think that little truck would cost $15k more than a Maverick. It's basically the same thing, and sells for the same price in Brazil.
