Charging your HYBRID

Reading all the battery horror stories with the Hybrids… wondering if I put a maintainer on the battery under the hood…. Will it charge the small ass Battery under the seat?? Is there a better way?? Still don’t have mine yet but trying to prepare . Ordered this summer so I have a long wait

I have a hybrid and do not charge it or see a reason to charge it. If you have some kind of battery problem, maybe charge it but for normal operation, there is no need to charge it.

Well I posed the question in another thread and don't think it received a reply but my thought was what if you replaced the standard battery with a marine/rv battery? I think that's the wrong way to go though.

I would either charge the battery like Spook suggested or outright replace it with a different brand altogether. I know FCA had a batch of bad batteries from a supplier that was wreaking havoc with new Renegades. We replaced ours, several times actually.

With the sensitive electronics in new cars nowadays if the computer senses something is off or not right voltage wise they throw bizzare warnings for everything at you and then don't start.

I have a 22 XLT hybrid 6 months old. I live on the border and West Tennessee and Kentucky. Right before it after Christmas we have that polar vortex come down on us actual temperature was -8 wind chill was -20. Truck was left outside for 4 days was nothing but one blue ice cube. Remote started with the key fob a couple times ( Damn shame that Ford is Doing away with the remote start on the key fob shame on you Ford especially for us people that live in the cold weather areas ). Sorry got on my bully pulpit. It started up both times no problem on the second time the inside was warm enough to melt the ice on the south facing door so I can go ahead and get in it and turn everything up on high and defrosted my Maverick. Went to the store to get my daughter and us for a couple groceries drove around two wrecks on ice it's still on a small hundred foot Hill with a banking to the left on our property a trash truck slid into our trees but my Maverick right around the truck the cones and on the side of the road and never lost an inch of traction. So long story short I have had no problems at all with the battery cold nor traction on ice and snow with front wheel drive Only .

Well, if you have to drive with only 2 wheels, the front are the way to go.

Also if your truck is "fine"' I see no benefit to trickle charging the 12v. If your 12v is getting drained quickly, probably want to track down why that is happening.

As long as you have either Wi-Fi or AT&T cell coverage, you can remote start using the FordPass app, even if you don't have remote start on your key fob.

Not when your truck goes into deep sleep mode. Which mine did again this morning, even after I trickle charged it a few nights before.
Never any issues starting the truck(other than remotely,)just randomly going in to deep sleep.

Out of curiosity, does the key fob remote start work when it's in deep sleep mode?

Edit: Yes it appears.
Though at my work, where I need it, the FOB doesn't reach the parking lot.

  • The remote start command can start the engine, but it does not engage the transmission.

Seems like conflicting information. Read the last sentence on that page.
"The vehicle cannot be remotely started, locked, or unlocked."
I think that statement meant that Normally the remote start can start your engine but you have to push the button or turn the key to put it in drive.

I'll have to try it again next the next time it goes into deep sleep, tomorrow, lol.

It's not conflicting.

Deep Sleep Mode relates to FordPass connected features.

The vehicle continues to listen for commands from the key fob. Following your logic, you couldn't even unlock it with the fob in Deep Sleep, but nobody has made that complaint yet.

That page is telling you that FordPass remote features are unavailable, but you can access and even remote start the vehicle manually with the key.

However, to leave Deep Sleep mode, you'll need to go into the vehicle and start it, not just a remote start.

I park in my garage, so the only time I remote start is at work.
My fob doesn't reach to the parking lot, so I can only use the app.
