That's a lot of green I just always figured green was more used on performance stuff, but the war left over makes a lot of sense. I'd always heard the Consuls, Zephyrs, anglias, etc. we're mostly sent over here in the amounts they were as part of the repayment for lend-lease. Not sure if there is any truth to that or not.
Don’t quote me, but i bet Landrover will attest,.after Ww2 Britain was kind of like Henry ford, you can have any color, as long as it military, green, black, grey.. etc… lol..

Heh, when the wall "fell" in East Germany, East Germans who were anxious to finally be able to buy a car, rushed to West German car dealers. The West German car dealers in response rushed cars to thier dealers. Unfortunately most of them were white and East Germans wanted any color but white because that was the color of the Trabants.

I wouldn’t call it a brain I have, but definitely have a perspective.. . I had a jowett Javelin, an MG Magnette Mk4, more minis than a junkyard can hold, Austin J4 van is what I learned to drive.. I canā€œand doā€ rant about all the vehicles I have had in my life, my playpen was a isetta bubble car….. etc.. etc…. And because I’m a continent jumper, I’ve seen cars that died in one country relive as another brand in another. One of my faves being the Buick Terraza now still in production in China as an Elite vehicle (Buick GR8).. so yes, opinions, not knowledge..

I love the fact that a mini Moke is available in China for 4k new, every Compact Chevy is still in production in China as one brand or another, Foshon, Wulling, Saic derivative.. etc.. in a different life I would be a car designer.. lol. So yes, thoroughly enjoying this convo.
I love those Isettas. My Mom was an army brat. They were stationed in Puerto Rico in the late 50's or so. Some of her early memories were of riding around in an Isetta with my Grandpa.

When I first decided I'd order a Maverick in July I was still debating about Velocity Blue or Area 51 (though leaning a bit toward Area 51 just because it seems unusual). After seeing a Bronco and then a couple Mavericks in Area 51 I decided I'd go with Area 51 when I made my order. In anything but direct sunlight it looks blue rather than gray (but still not the same shade of blue as the metallic blues), which I'm happy with. I do not like Atlas Blue as much as Area 51 so I wasn't considering it all that strongly anyway.

Not that you asked but since I'm talking about color preferences I may as well provide my thoughts on the other one I was considering. I think Cactus Gray also looks nice but I prefer the more blue color of Area 51. I've seen it on some Broncos in person, haven't seen a Cactus Grey Maverick in person yet.

Of the three, the Atlas is the truer blue. Alto is on the dark-side of the spectrum, Area 51 is on the light-side of the spectrum. Definitely not a decision I would make for someone else, but it's fun to play along.

I chose the Atlas Blue because the colors offered for the XL are not that bright and I want other drivers to see me.

I don't really appreciate this new trend of what I call "mud colors" like Area 51. It just looks like someone threw blue paint in a mud puddle and stirred it up. To each his own.

In 45 years of driving the only accidents I have been in were me getting rear ended at red lights and a cross walk. Six times in the last 25 years.

I did wander if all the ā€œmutedā€ colors were a result of pigment shortages.. it does seem grey/white/51 etc are easier and potentially cheaper to make than strong colors.. umm.. will 51 die when (if) supply chains resolve themselves…. ??.. thanks for the input..
I believe that ā€œMutedā€ color, as you put it, are what is what many auto manufacturers are now using. I did order area51 on my 23 xlt. More of a blue/gray…in my opinion. I did see it at the Philadelphia auto show.

They were fun for sure, I loved climbing in through the front door, but was still kind of in diapers. So only drive it in my imagination,. I didn’t realize they made it to Puerto Rico. I thought they were a Euro thing.. that’s cool.

Lmao.. Mud colors, huh.. lol. I’ll run with ā€œmutedā€, but definitely see your point. .
