I had intended to order a MY2022 in Velocity Blue and waited to long. I was very disappointed to learn that it had been discontinued for 2023, that is until I was at my local Ford store for an oil change and spied an F-150 in Atlas Blue Metallic. Although I don't have a Maverick yet, the Atlas Blue Metallic almost made me glad I missed the MY2022. To be honest, the Velocity and Atlas blues aren't that far apart, but I think the Atlas Blue is a little darker and just a better color overall. The metallic flecks really help it stand out.
the velocity did look good on the Mav, and I think the Atlas looks just as classy, if not more. I think getting the cruise on the 23 Mav makes not getting the 22 worth it. I do love the Atlas, it’s sparkle, but the base simplicity of the 51 still makes it a hard choice for me..

Yes, British racing green started at Bentley I think, but ended up on everything…. But it did default to the higher end vehicles. My Rover(Honda)200 wagon looked awesome in BRG..
most of the colors of vehicles in the 50s were I direct result of the Second World War, what paints and ingredients were available.
yellow stripes on some cars were normally Lotus tuned models, but definitely not on the Consul, so almost definitely an add on.

Dang I sure appreciate all the information you've given me. I have been torn between going with BRG or a more Robin egg blue on that Consul. I just wanted to stay true to the British with it. I'm definitely leaning towards green after seeing those pics.

Interesting. How popular was dark green on stuff in the 50's over there? Was British racing green used on non performance cars much? My Consul has no paint left at all, but there appears to be hints of dark green and a narrow double stripe of yellow offset across the top. I always figured somebody had repainted it at some point.
This gives you an idea of the 50s greens on the UK roads., BRS, (British road services) was a form of UPS in its day. But everything used leftover Army green.

More than welcome.. I was born a car nut, not the mechanics, the style and evolution. So I love this thread..

OK. another of those crazy tidbitz, Green is seen as an unlucky color on a car by the Irish, no idea why. But when young every time I looked at a green car my mum and dad would bitch at me. Lol.

Yes, British racing green started at Bentley I think, but ended up on everything….
I had a green '73 Super Beetle. I bought it used, but based on where the green was (under access panels, etc) either it was the factory color or someone was very thorough repainting. But while I had that car, I needed to replace the driver-side door because the original door had rotted out on the bottom enough that it wouldn't pass PA inspection. Ended up replacing the door with an orange one. In the fall I would joke that the car hadn't quite ripened yet. And everyone knew which car was mine... :ROFLMAO: (If anyone here lived in or around West Chester, PA in the 'aughts, that green bug with the orange door was me.)

Since others are posting pics of their older cars, here are two shots of Kermit (it wasn't easy being green):

gotta love the beetles, so simple, made in every color under the sun and rarely stayed factory.. I think the Beetle and mini were the two most customized cars in history..

That's a lot of green I just always figured green was more used on performance stuff, but the war left over makes a lot of sense. I'd always heard the Consuls, Zephyrs, anglias, etc. we're mostly sent over here in the amounts they were as part of the repayment for lend-lease. Not sure if there is any truth to that or not.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this as well. I love the mechanics stuff as well, but I love deep diving into all the nitty gritty history, styling, options, etc. stuff as well. I don't get many chances to pick a brain on British stuff instead of American stuff so this has been the highlight of my week so far.

BRG started right after cars. Earliest use of BRG dates back to 190? before 1910. BRG is not any one specific shade of green, rather any dark green in Britain. Green started to be used for race cars, and that's where brg came from.

I never would have guessed that. We always think of the Irish and green as going hand in hand. My lucky charms cereal box lied to me as a child.

I knew the the use of it on the Bentley 8 I think it was, and then it was everywhere after ww2, didn’t realize it started so early in automotive history..

I wouldn’t call it a brain I have, but definitely have a perspective.. . I had a jowett Javelin, an MG Magnette Mk4, more minis than a junkyard can hold, Austin J4 van is what I learned to drive.. I canā€œand doā€ rant about all the vehicles I have had in my life, my playpen was a isetta bubble car….. etc.. etc…. And because I’m a continent jumper, I’ve seen cars that died in one country relive as another brand in another. One of my faves being the Buick Terraza now still in production in China as an Elite vehicle (Buick GR8).. so yes, opinions, not knowledge..

I love the fact that a mini Moke is available in China for 4k new, every Compact Chevy is still in production in China as one brand or another, Foshon, Wulling, Saic derivative.. etc.. in a different life I would be a car designer.. lol. So yes, thoroughly enjoying this convo.
