Broken front grill at 1000 miles

Here’s a better picture. Looks worse the more I look at it.

Probably a shadow but in the first picture you posted there appears to be a vertical anomaly in the broken one and the ones shown in the picture to the observers left but not in the ones to the observers right. Looks like a vertical slightly raised area not very wide. Look at picture and look closely at truck. Might provide a hint but may be lighting. See what you think?

But again, I realize having it closed off is better for efficiency, however they could have left it open and had active grille shutters behind it like my Ram.
(and I am aware the Maverick has shutters at the very lower opening apparently, though not mentioned on Ford’s stats on the site)

Both upper and lower grilles have active shutters.

This is nothing to lose sleep over. Will be dozens of after market options soon enough. As others have said there is no harm in leaving it open. I also concur that it was a rock 🪨 (or some hard object). This isn’t a quality issue as a large rock will do this to any car with any amount of miles. I know it sucks it happened but it could have been worse.

Insurance looks like to me ~ rock or some road debris got ya.

I would rinse that area from time to time until you get a proper repair part installed, it is open to the elements from below so no harm no foul. If you were to pull the factory cold air inlet duct you will find there are actually two sets of openings for cold air but the factory inlet actually blocks the drivers side off, seems weird, but that drivers side inlet will let you see the back of that upper grill section.

Was running a clay bar on mine today and found a ding on the hood leading edge right above your puncture, a perfect little divot......good old DFW highways

Try look for the post of the guy that changed out the factory grill for some after market honey comb. He might still have the original grill. Happy Hunting

Cut the rest of the top row cells out, insert led lighting to span the top width of the grill. Problem fixed!

Cheap thin brittle plastic for sure. It would have been nice to see a heavier impact resistant material used. Cost cutting for sure. You get what you pay for.

Looks like a rock hit. Any damage behind the hole? It would have sounded like a bullet though to do that damage, unless you are Mr. Magoo. (or old enough to know who Mr. Magoo is)

I had a rock break my windshield on a brand new F150 in 2002 on my way home from the purchase from dealer. Sorry. Rocks happen. Your insurance should cover it, but hopefully parts are not a problem to get at this time. Hope this is the extend of your issues with a $20,000 truck. It could also happen on a $74,000 truck as they also have plastic parts on the front that can break.
