I thought this was an interesting conversation with the Ford Maverick marketing manager and chief program engineer. Had some information about the Maverick I haven’t come across other places.

It was good, I'm still surprised by Ford marketing saying the market is a diverse 25-35 yo, who never owned a truck before. I see a bunch of old guys who've owned trucks their whole life buying this.

That being said, they sold me and I'm very close to that age range and would have never ever considered a truck before. I'm literally upgrading from a Prius to this truck and it makes so much sense that that I'm left with very little arguments against it

The younger market will probably take more notice when there's stock on the lots and skew to leasing where the lower payment is appealing. I'm in the intended age range but as a mechanic I'd rather own so I can more freely wrench on and modify.

Reading this blog almost daily, I get the impression that a large percentage of people purchasing this truck are over 60. I could be wrong.

I find this whole idea of "target market" laughable, like any dealer is going to turn away any of us gray-hairs who walk in with a checkbook. I wish they would just admit that the market for ANY vehicle is clientele that can pay for it, or qualify for a loan/lease.

I feel that a bunch of people will be getting a maverick from subaru, toyota and even with a previous EV ownership. And of course previous truck owners that realize a smaller yet capable 40 mpg city vehicle is great.
When the pickups will be available on the dealer lots I see younger people (20-30) buying it but now it is about planning/reserving with no instant gratification and we "older" folks are better at it.

I have definitely noticed that as well, and I could not be happier that the Maverick is appealing to such a broad spectrum of people. I can't wait to see what sort of hobbies and adventures both millennials and retirees get into once they have this truck in their driveway :D

I am a whole lot closer to 60 then 35. i’ve never owned a pick up truck, but being “older” I’m looking forward to not having to get my kayaks on the roof of my subaru anymore and being able to transport my recumbent bike more easily. I think Ford Will do well with both demographics.

I'm 47. Owned everything from. A sunflower to an escape (first style and was by far my favorite vehicle). Never a truck. My grandfather owned v1 of the ford ranger with the suicide doors. I like the price point and the additional storage capacity. Also I hate getting down into cars. I'm 6'2 270 and hoping that buying this truck sight unseen is not a mistake. Still super excited. Waiting for my dealer to email me my vin...

I think when it comes down to it, age probably isn't the main factor in their "target group". I think it's the whole "person who never knew they needed a truck", or only ever bought used, or only bought sedans because of fuel economy - the reality is that the age group for that is from 18-100(if you can trick folks into letting you keep your license that long)

And for those of you that have had trucks before and are attracted by the size or the fuel economy of the maverick because of your current life needs...shoot, they didn't even need to convince you - that was practically a done deal.
